Welcome to PEN Q! By using our app, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.
By creating an account or using PEN Q, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
You must be at least 13 years old to use PEN Q. By registering, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Please notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
Books you upload: You must have the right to share any book you upload. This includes books you authored, public domain works, or books for which you have distribution rights.
Dedications you write: Dedications become part of the book's journey and may be seen by future recipients. Write respectfully. Do not include hate speech, threats, explicit content, or personally identifying information of others without consent.
Our right to remove: We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these terms or that we deem inappropriate.
Pass it on: When you pass a book, it transfers to the recipient. You will no longer have access to that copy.
Send a copy: When you send a copy, a new copy is created for the recipient. You keep your original.
Pending transfers: Recipients must accept books sent to them. Unclaimed books are returned to the sender (Pass it on) or deleted (Send a copy) after 5 days.
Free to join: Downloading PEN Q and creating an account is free. Some books in the catalog are free, including public domain works. Other books are priced by their author, and the price is shown to you before you pay.
Paid books: When you buy a priced book, you pay to either keep it yourself or give it to someone else with a personal dedication. When you give the same book again, a discount may apply; the final amount is always shown before you confirm. On iOS, payment is processed by Apple through the App Store. On Android, payment is processed by Google through Google Play. On the web, payment is processed by Stripe, and the seller is PEN Q, LLC.
Author earnings: For every paid book, 70% of the net proceeds (the amount received after store or payment-processor fees) is credited to the author and 30% is kept by PEN Q. Author earnings are paid out periodically after a refund buffer, and are withheld on refunded sales or on content that violates these terms.
Author membership: Authors may join the PEN Q Author membership for $19.99 per month, billed by Stripe on the web. The membership renews automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal in the app, and your benefits continue until the end of the period you have paid for. The first 50 founding authors receive the membership free for life.
Refunds: If a book you gave is declined by the recipient, the purchase is refunded. Purchases made through Google Play are refunded by PEN Q when Google permits it, and otherwise handled manually by our support team. Purchases made through the App Store are refunded through Apple. For any other refund request, contact us at support@penq.love. A refunded sale reverses the author's share.
PEN Q and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by PEN Q and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The books shared through PEN Q remain the intellectual property of their respective authors.
The following content may not be uploaded, sold, gifted, or promoted on PEN Q:
You may also not attempt to gain unauthorized access to other accounts, or reverse engineer or tamper with the app.
Enforcement: every book is reviewed manually before it is listed. Any user can report a book, and a reported book is hidden immediately pending review. Content that violates this policy is removed, the related author earnings are withheld, and accounts may be suspended or terminated.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us.
PEN Q is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app, including loss of data or interruption of service.
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of PEN Q after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
